How to make a placard?

What is a placard? For us a placard is never just a separate board or poster. Our definition of a placard is a rigid light-weight printed board with a stick attached to the back. This way, a placard can be carried and used for advertising or protest purposes. In the case of double sided boards the stick sits in between two layers of the board material.

The best placard material and printing process

So going back to our question of 'How to make a placard'; to make a placard you need to have a rigid material either printed direct (as we do) or with a mounted poster or self adhesive vinyl sticker laid on. These days the easiest solution is to find large format printers like ourselves to print the boards direct. This is currently the most cost effective and quickest process of printing (regardless whether it's single of full colour image). The old-fashioned traditional way (by applying separate print to the board) could be much more time consuming and could be difficult for an inexperienced person. 

Ways of attaching a wooden stick to the back of a placard

Once we have our printed image we just need to attach a stick. We pick a thin piece of wood so it is not too heavy in case we carry the placard for a long time or when we have to attach a relatively big board. We can attach the board to the stick using strong glue, double sided adhesive tape, a stapler or nails, depending on required strength. It will again depend on how big and heavy the attached board is. We print our placards on 4mm corrugated plastic (thinner version of the estate agents signs) so it is a really light placard material but rigid and water proof at the same time, making correx an ideal solution for picketing or mobile advertising signs.
